lonely, long and difficult
for the pearl that makes the shell
like a bathtub in an ocean
full of distractions and
interruptions
and so full of doubt
that opportunity
actually seeps in

poetry and stones 
Some very resonating imagery here: the hard job likened to a pearl and it’s shell jumps out as particularly astute.
